Toni Collette Is Concern's New Global Ambassador

Award-winning actress partners with Concern to help change the lives of some of the world's most vulnerable communities.

Humanity, authenticity, passion, work ethic, humility…and humor. These traits define Concern Worldwide. They’re part of our culture and ethos, and can be found in all of our 3,000 staff across the globe. They are traits that also define the life and career of Toni Collette, and that’s why she is our first Global Ambassador.

From the moment we met Toni two years ago, we saw her deep compassion for the world’s poorest, as well as her drive to do something, and she’s been actively supporting our work ever since.

Toni has a rare ability to translate concern into action, having helped us reach countless new friends and donors as in the last three years.

As our Global Ambassador, Toni shines a light on the challenges facing those impacted by poverty, war, conflict, and natural disaster. In 2014, she made her first field visit with Concern to Haiti, where she met families who, together with Concern, are working to break the cycle of extreme poverty.

“Toni has a rare ability to translate concern into action, having helped us reach countless new friends and donors as in the last three years,” says Dr. Joseph Cahalan, former Concern Worldwide US CEO. “As our ambassador, she helps us strengthen our effort to change the lives of the world's most vulnerable communities.  We’re so grateful.”

In 2012, Toni lent her celebrity to Concern’s global campaign to fight malnutrition and hunger and later to a holiday appeal to make a difference to families across the world through gifts such as livestock, clean water, and health care. Together, the campaigns raised money that helped Concern fight poverty, hunger, and disease, and ultimately save lives.

Toni’s accomplishments are diverse and remarkable. Her upcoming films include Miss You Already and Krampus. Last year, she starred on Broadway in The Realistic Joneses and in the films Lucky Them, The Long Way DownThe Boxtralls, and Glassland. She was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in “The Sixth Sense” and won both an Emmy and a Golden Globe for “Best Actress in a Comedy Series” for her performance in Showtime’s hit series The United States of Tara.

Toni is bringing to Concern the same passion and commitment she’s always brought to her work.  She says: “I’ve committed to keep working with Concern because I know they’ll do whatever it takes — not only in the areas of hunger and health, but also emergency response, clean water, sustainable livelihoods, education, and HIV and AIDS. Over 45 years, they have developed a formula for change, and I am excited and humbled to be a part of it.”
